Mind game merkins

10 PAX showed up for the start of another high-numbers week. PAX – Twitch, Pinky, Dunphy, BlindSpot, Herschel, Pipeline, Buubs, Double Humpee, Cat Scratch, Seabiscuit

We haven’t hit merkins in a while (or at least a high number of them)…so today was all about merkins. At least in my mind.

Rather than doing 1000 merkins in small increments, I wanted to do just 8 large sets of merkins (in the 50 range…so 8*50=400 merkins). I imagined that if I said “Hey we are going to do 50 merkins every 5 minutes”, the PAX (specially Cat Scratch and Pipeline) would have lost their shit. So I had to play mind games on the PAX.  So I started the clock and off we went….

Warm up – 15 SSH IC (small numbers for Cat Scratch, but also so we might be able to get through the warm up before the buzzer rang for our first set of 50-ish merkins), 15 merkins IC, 10 WMH, 20 arm circles (each direction), 20 rubios….times up. Buzzer went off….so 60 seconds of merkins.

The thang: Leg Escalator (with merkins of course)

(This will keep their minds off the merkins). 10 squats in cadence, then lunge walk up the ramp. At the top we sprint the length of the deck and back. Buzzer went off….so 60 seconds of merkins.

At the next ramp we did 10 squats IC and 10 monkey humpers, then Everest up the ramp. Times up ….Buzzer went off….so 60 seconds of merkins.

At the next ramp we did 10 squats IC, 10 monkey humpers, 10 gorilla humpers, then Latino Lunge up the ramp. Times up ….Buzzer went off….so 60 seconds of merkins.

Keep this up all the way up, alternating mode of travel between lunge walking and Everesting. Add in additional star jumps and squat jumps. Every 5 minutes,60 seconds of merkins. (8 sets in all)

Recover, recover.

Mind games worked. Not a single PAX complained about the high numbers of merkins. In fact, I believe I heard, “Thank God, merkins” as the buzzer went off on the 5th floor. So that’s a first!!!!
