On a warm summer’s evening…no, wait…those are the lyrics to “The Gambler” by Kenny Rogers…on a cold winter’s morning. That’s better. On a cold winter’s morning, five PAX decided to make themselves a little better at Victory Valley. This included Frack, who had his puffy jacket on and ran with his hands in his pockets because the weather was so pleasant.

Warmup: Indigenous people’s run around the way to the parking lot at Reserve Ave. During warmup exercises, Cat Scratch kept commenting on how several other early-morning exercisers he saw seemed to be having more fun than we were, so we had to do five burpees to discourage him. It seemed to work.

The Thang: Mosey to the pedestrian bridge over the river. The plan was the Dirty Dozen, given that today is Jan. 12. We’d begin with one squat, travel across the bridge, do 11 big boys, travel back, two squats, travel, 10 big boys, rinse and repeat until we’d flipped the ladder. The first two travels were the crab walk (in honor of Double Humpee) and the bear crawl (for Frack, who had modified to the bear crawl during the crab walk). After that, it was a blur. At some point, YHC asked Double Humpee to tell jokes to break up the workout and make the men forget they were slowly freezing to death.

Eventually time got short, so we moseyed back to the cars, doing our 9/3, 10/2 and 11/1 sets while yogging back. We arrived at exactly 6:15.

COT and announcements. Lots of CSAUPS on the calendar; if we have Qs, we’ll do them. Check the #csaup channel on Slack. Double Humpee took us away.

An honor and a privilege!
