Q — Pinky

We needed a measuring stick…to gauge the progress we have made with F3. There are lots of possibilities (and you might suspect I would pick some version of animal bombs for this, or perhaps something with monkey humpers…). But I went classic on this one. APFT — Army Physical Fitness Test. Its simple and yet quite brutal…..2 minutes of pushups, 2 minutes of situps (big boys), and a 2 mile “sprint”. We will break this out every 6 months or so to measure our progress.
All APFTs I ever did included a clicker board for the push-ups (making them 150% worse than regular push-ups) and a partner to keep us honest with number and form. So with Twitch’s assistance we built a few durable clicker boards for F3 (good thing with poly-coated them since it rained on our parade today!). Seemed like Zebra agreed with my assertion that clicker boards make push-ups worse. Long arms suck.
So a few notes:
- Kudos to Frack. For those that didn’t see it Frack crushed the first mile, starting his kick before crossing the Roanoke River and passing Matlock, Pinky and Dunphy to score the fastest time for the 1st mile (6:30). Sadly for Frack, there was another lap to do, which he really didn’t anticipate. (Kudos also to Matlock for actually scoring the fastest 2 mile time — 13:14)
- Kudos to Twitch. He knew what was coming (since he helped create this monster) and knew his injuries would prevent him from completing some of the events. Still he showed up in the rain to cheer us on (at 5:30AM).
- Kudos to my partner (Cat Scratch) who crushed it today.
For those interested here is a link to check how you did in regards to age and Army standards:

But remember, this is just a starting point. The great thing about the APFT is there is always room for improvement!!
Good job today!
