RIP EVH

Victory Valley, Roanoke, VA

Conditions: 58 deg. F and clear skies

PAX: Cat Scratch, Double Humpee, Herschel, Legz, Pipeline

Q: Pipeline

A fog rolled in over the moors as the group gathered to pay respects to the late Edward Van Halen, or F3 Hot for Teacher as we knew him. The large clock tower atop The John Lugar Building struck 5:30 as the group moseyed around the soccer field for the opening act. Then it was right into the main draw: Eight rounds of exercises, 20 seconds on, 10 seconds off for eight sets, with a minute rest in between each round. The soothing strains of David Lee Roth, Michael Anthony, and brothers Alex and Eddie Van Halen (God rest his soul) filled the thick morning darkness, helping to motivate the PAX. Also, Pipeline’s Tabata app said “Come on!” periodically, which really was the best motivational speech you could ask for.

Double Humpee’s favorite was the crab walk. He performed it so well, that the circle remained perfectly round as he traversed it in crustaceanly fashion.

A cry of “Recover, recover” echoed across the pitch as a kiss punctuated the end of “Beautiful Girls” from Van Halen’s second release, aptly named Van Halen II. There were announcements, including rumors of a beer run next week. Double Humpee took us away.

An honor an a privilege!
