The weighted mile

Date: 1/20/2018

Q: Acorn

PAX: Dunphy (aka Uber), Tollbooth, Twitch, Herschel, Charlatan, Blindspot, Acorn

The PAX were all excited for a morning with temps >32F and the Q had promised such temps.  When I walked out my door and found it was 18F, I was worried that my promise of balmy weather would create some haters.  Nevertheless as Roanoke drew nearer, the temps began to rise until ultimately it was 47F and windy when I arrived at the AO.

Warmup:

At 0630 we ran a lap to warm up and then began with the following:

  • SSH x 25 IC
  • IW x 25 IC
  • WMH x 25 IC
  • Forward AC x 25 IC
  • Reverse AC x 25 IC
  • Slow Merkin x 25 IC

Thang: The weighted mile

Coupons were aplenty thanks to Herschel.  1 tractor tire (to be used later), 2 water cans (~40 lbs each), as many cinder blocks as we needed, and a modified railroad tie (~80 lbs).

As a group, we each took a coupon and ran a mile changing off coupons as failure took over.

Upon completion of the mile an unknown car pulled into the lot – Dunphy our beloved Nantan had arrived in an uber (*more on that later).  We had just begun lap#5 which included taking turns flipping the tire around the track by a few PAX, while the others continued in the tortured weighted mile plus.  After the tire had been flipped half way, the runners had caught back up (1.5 laps for them) and traded off.

Mary:

  • Dolphin kick x 25 IC
  • American hammer x 20 IC
  • Penguin crunch x 25 IC
  • 6 inch hold for eternity
  • WWII x 25 IC

*So Dunphy left his house in old reliable (Dodge) and broke down in the middle of an intersection while driving to #StarCity.  He flags down some dudes to push him through the intersection, gives them his F3 card and recruits them to join us.  He then arranges for a tow truck, calls an Uber and still arrived to finish up with us and make it to Coffeteria! T-Claps, Dunphy.  #Commitment
