Good Friday Workout

It was an honor leading you men today, and I hope that you were sharpened.

With it being Easter weekend the QIC decided to go with a Good Friday/Easter theme for the workout. QIC pulled in a touch late due to difficulty setting up in windy conditions, though he was  surprised to see such a large turnout. We had 12 total men and two young bucks with us, and that was a nice way to get started.

Keeping with the Good Friday Theme (MK 15:21) we ran up the big hill while carrying a “cross” which looked a lot like two sandbags. Though we all got a turn on the “cross” I have to give TClaps to Blindspot for grabbing the sandbag at the steepest portion and sprinting up hill.

At the top parking deck QIC had setup four stations complete with Easter eggs. That’s right we’re doing an Easter egg hunt! The only difference, is that there ain’t no jelly beans inside these eggs: just pain. We paired up, grabbed an egg to discover our “prize” and then performed our exercises in teams. In between each station a traveling method was chosen, and partner carry had to be one of the selections. Teams performed their exercises at each station and then moved on, rinse and repeat. I should note that there was one egg in the whole batch (of 48) that was “Free Grace” offered to the team who picked it. Free Grace meant that the team didn’t need to do anything, they had freedom in that station to nothing. Of course Dunphy and Frack got that egg on the very first pull, which wasn’t exactly how I envisioned that playing out. I also should note that since the wind was trickier than expected on the top deck, the QIC resorted to placing the eggs in random objects in his car. Thus two fishing nets, a milk crate, and a grocery bag were utilized as Easter baskets.

We each did about 7-8 rounds of exercises (Squats, Burpees, Merkins, Running down the hill and back from the Tennis courts, Plank Jacks, Squat Jumps, etc…….)

All in all the PAX seemed to enjoy the exercises, though I was asked by  more than one person if Pinky had designed the workout. Pinky did not design the workout, though I think I borrowed a few of his concepts in this one.

Lastly, in keeping with the theme from today “But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Eph 2:4-10
