The Squeeze

(AKA Fitting a 60 minute workout into 45 minutes)

On a moderately cold and wet MLK day 7 PAX assembled in the parking lot. For once I was cutting it close to the 5:30 start time. I could tell they weren’t thrilled I was there, especially given my promise to fit a 60 minute workout into 45 minutes. I reassure them I wasn’t going to miss it, I was just setting up equipment in the parking deck. Not sure that made them feel better. Clock struck 5:30 so we were off….

We slow jogged to the parking deck for a brief warmup. Started with high knees to get everyones heart rate up (PAX looked a bit shocked that we didn’t start with side straddle hops). Then into merkins and then side straddle hops (but probably way more than anyone wanted to really do). Arm circles were next and we hit those hard…80 or so IC…no one looked happy. I threatened some reverse arm circles, but then moved on to WMH and squat jacks instead. And then we were running. Arm stairs, across parking deck, up stairs, across parking deck and up stairs. That got us to the 3rd floor….and the cones.

The cones were 21 parking spaces apart. Perfect for a Super 21 (merkins and squats, increasing by 1 each parking space). So simple. So painful. LBCs while we waited for everyone to finish.

Now on to a little circuit. The circuit included burpees, high knees, american hammers, merkins, LBCs and plank jacks. At the end of each circuit we bear crawled to the other side of the parking deck and did squats while we waited for everyone to arrive. Then we repeated and repeated and repeated. The catch was there were no rests and no specific numbers to complete. Exercises were executed until Q called next exercise….Lasted a long 20 minutes. Pretty much dead quiet the whole time.

Slow jog down the stairs and back to the parking lot…namorama on the run. Finished the workout by exercising gastric muscles by consuming donuts from the back of Q’s car in honor of Cat Scratch.
